Keywords:
Qurʾān, Memorisation, Compilation, Collection, Prophet Muhammad, Caliph Abu Bakr, ʿUthmanAbstract
This paper discusses the collection of the Qurʾān, an exposition on its various types and stages and the motives that led to its compilation. It will delve into each stage providing detail of the collection and compilation in the eras of the Prophet (pbuh), Abū Bakr and ʿUthmān. In addition, it will deal with the following questions: who ordered its collection? Who carried out this task? What was the methodology or procedure which the Companions of the Messenger (pbuh) adopted for its collection? In this article, answers to the objections of the orientalists have been given to a required extent. Through this study, it will also be clear that the text of the Qurʾān per se is the same that was revealed by Allah to the Prophet (pbuh). It is protected in written form from all kinds of distortion and alteration till the Day of Resurrection.
