Qur'anic Review of the Role of Economy in the Establishment of Social Peace

Abstract

The purpose of human life is to try with careful intent to get the means of comfort and quietness in one's way of life, all while considering the requirements of Sharia (Islamic law) and ensuring the happiness of one's hereafter. These very teachings have also been given to us by the religion of Islam, highlighting the search of both this world and the hereafter. In achieving these objectives, no matter what hurdles arise, there are guidelines available to overcome them. Consequently, one major factor among the causes of social progress and well-being is economic improvement. Individuals and societies experience greater peace and serenity in their lives where economic conditions are better, while life becomes challenging in those societies where economic conditions decline. The following article discusses what guidance Allah Almighty has provided in His book, the Holy Quran, regarding this aspect? How is economic betterment related to social peace and how is economic decline related to social unrest? In this context, we present a discussion. The basic reason for selecting this topic is to bring forth the causes of economic decline in today's society and to identify and suggest practical solutions to eliminate those causes and reasons so that the formation of social peace becomes possible, and humans can attain the blessings of both this world and the hereafter.
