ARABIC-13 Phenomenon of Science in the Poetry of Jamil Sidqi Zahavi

Abstract

This article entitled (ظاهرة العلم فی شعر جمیل صدقی الزهاوی) deals with the phenomenon of science in the poetry of Jamil Sidqi Zahavi. Zahavi (1863-1936) is a well known Iraqi poet. He belongs to a religious family. His father was Mufti of Iraq. Zahavi is regarded as one of the pioneers of the modern intellectual awakening. He has focused in his poetry on the issues and subjects of the present era. In this article, phenomenon of science, he has discussed philosophical and scientific approaches. As a preacher of the freedom of thought he is against stagnation. According to him poetry is the language of science, not of human race. He is the critic of Newton’s theory of gravitation. He has pondered on the phenomena of the universe. In this regard he believes and advocates rationalism. In short he has discussed different issues of science in his poetry.
